Mural project

Back in November 2016 Cossag was asked to overseer a major mural project at the cathedral. We rose to the challenge!

A series of murals have been created by Cossag members along with local artists and members of the community and community groups. There is 70 meters of painted mural – which is a huge achievement.

The boards were put up around the cathedral while the roof was being replaced and will only be up for another month or so.

We need to also thank Certified Roofing for sponsoring the mural project by supplying most of the paint.  The project would not have come to fruition without their generous support.

2 Christmas murals, 2 Tree of life murals and a forest by the Guardian kindy kids.

The theme of the two Christmas murals was ‘Bethlehem to Brisbane’. A twist on the Christmas story as Joseph and Mary with baby Jesus seek shelter and are welcomed by the people of Brisbane.

The imagery in the ‘Tree of Life’ murals has been inspired by the Pope quoting Saint Francis in Laudato Si on the importance of caring for our environment:

In the words of this beautiful canticle, Saint Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us. “Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs”.

Here are the high lights and results:
